karkhanas dedicated to the craft until 1677 when the karkhana was ordered to
shut down by Aurangzeb.
The butis on Chanderi sarees were
woven with the help of needles and seperate needles were used to create the motifs.
The motifs were then covered with gold, silver and copper dust by the weavers.
Even though Chanderi sarees are now available in bold colours like red, black,
navy blue, originally these were characterized by soft pastel colours.
